Cosenza: 17-year-old hospitalized after falling onto rocks

A 17-year-old girl was seriously injured on Sunday evening, August 30, after falling approximately three to four meters onto sharp rocks along the Tyrrhenian coast in the province of Cosenza.

Following the accident, the teenager was airlifted via emergency helicopter to the Annunziata Hospital in Cosenza under a red code. She has been admitted to the pediatric surgery department with polytrauma and various injuries to her back. Medical examinations revealed a deep lesion in the subscapular region involving muscle and tissue, a pulmonary contusion, a hematoma on the chest wall, spinal injuries, and a slight fracture of the right humerus.

Authorities are still investigating the exact circumstances of the incident to determine whether the girl fell accidentally or attempted a dive. The incident has raised concerns regarding safety on coastal stretches characterized by protruding rocks and irregular sea floors.
