Cosenza approves 1.6 million euro redevelopment for Piazza P. Cappello
The Cosenza municipal government has approved a technical and economic feasibility project to redevelop Piazza P. Cappello. The intervention, valued at approximately 1.6 million euros, will cover about 2,570 square meters, representing 83% of the square.
The project focuses on the area in front of Palazzo Nitti, aiming to improve pedestrian accessibility and create more spaces for residents to linger. Planned improvements include new paving, reorganized green areas, updated street furniture, and renewed public lighting. The design intends to transform the square from a mere transit point into a safer, more welcoming public space.
Mayor Franz Caruso stated that the project is part of the “Agenda Urbana Cosenza-Rende 2021-2027” sustainable urban development strategy. This initiative follows previous recoveries of public spaces, such as Piazza XXV Luglio, and is expected to continue with Piazza Skanderbeg and the Scalinata dei Due Leoni.
