Women's health initiatives focus on breast cancer prevention
Various initiatives across Italy and international health organizations are focusing on breast cancer prevention and women's health. In Italy, regional campaigns in Tuscany and Marche are offering free mammographies to encourage early diagnosis, with Marche providing a dedicated helpline for screening inquiries.
Medical advancements are also highlighted, such as the PRECICE study by the Istituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO), which evaluates cryoablation as a minimally invasive alternative to surgery for specific early-stage breast cancer patients. Additionally, the Shield Women project by Andos Nazionale Ets has successfully provided over 1,600 mammographies to socially and economically disadvantaged women.
On a broader scale, the World Health Organization (WHO) Europe has launched a digital hub to help healthcare professionals discuss the link between alcohol consumption and breast cancer risk. Local community engagement remains high, with awareness walks in Agrigento and sports-related prevention projects like Oncorun in Cosenza. These efforts aim to address the critical need for early detection, which remains the most effective way to improve survival rates and quality of life.
