Cosimo Latronico calls for continued Puglia‑Basilicata cooperation at Spinazzola food‑rail event

Basilicata regional assessor Cosimo Latronico addressed the “Il treno dei sapori” festival in Spinazzola, a town in Apulia, on behalf of the Basilicata administration. The event, organised by the municipality under the “Binari senza Tempo” project of the Ferrovie dello Stato Foundation, celebrates local food and the historic railway corridor.

Latronico stressed the long‑standing cultural and economic ties between Puglia and Basilicata, recalling Pope Innocent XII’s birthplace in Spinazzola and the 19th‑century advocacy of Giustino Fortunato for the Gioia del Colle–Rocchetta Sant'Antonio line. He described the 140‑kilometre railway, with its engineering landmarks such as the 21‑arch bridge at Macchia, as a “civil‑justice act” that once linked the interior to Adriatic and Ionian ports. The official urged that the legacy of those tracks be turned into modern development highways, using the festival as a launchpad for future regional growth.
