Cosmic Crusader wins Turnbull Stakes at Flemington

Trainer Andrea Leek secured a major career victory with Cosmic Crusader winning the Turnbull Stakes at Flemington. Ridden by Willie Pike, the $8 outsider handled heavy track conditions to win by 1-¾ lengths ahead of Light Infantry Man, with Aeliana finishing third.

This victory serves as a preparation for the Cox Plate, which is scheduled to be held at Flemington on October 24 this year due to track renovations at Moonee Valley. Leek noted that Cosmic Crusader, a former Perth-owned galloper, showed excellent fitness and successfully managed the step up in distance beyond 1800 metres.

Leek also touched upon personal challenges, stating that focusing on her horses has helped her manage family pressures during a difficult period involving her husband, John.
