Cossato bar maintains 70-cent espresso price despite inflation

At the ‘Fante di Cuori’ bar in Cossato, located in the province of Biella, the price of an espresso has remained at 70 cents for over two decades. This price has been maintained since the introduction of the euro, despite rising inflation, energy costs, and increases in raw material prices.

Owners Rosina Furiati and Orlando Paldino describe the pricing as a conscious social and ‘political’ choice intended to ensure coffee remains accessible to everyone, particularly local industrial workers and the elderly. While the average price for an espresso in the Biella province is approximately 1.30 euros, the owners aim to prevent coffee from becoming a luxury item. They state that the business remains viable at this price point and serves as a small-scale opposition to price speculation.
