Cost of living and healthcare dominate voter concerns ahead of midterms

Voters in both rural areas and urban centers like Miami are prioritizing economic stability and healthcare as they approach upcoming midterm elections.

A KFF/AP poll indicates that for rural voters, the cost of living is the most pressing issue, cited by 69% as extremely important. Healthcare costs follow at 56%, while concerns regarding government program fraud and immigration also rank highly. Rural residents report significant declines in community affordability and access to medical services compared to nearly a decade ago, with 46% noting a shortage of local doctors.

In Miami, residents are similarly focused on the cost of living, particularly regarding housing, groceries, and transportation. Rising rents have significantly outpaced median household income growth, leading to concerns about displacement. Immigration also remains a central issue in the Miami area, impacting local business revenues and creating community divisions.
