Cost of Living Pressures Hit Households in Greece and Ireland

A survey commissioned by the Athens Chamber of Tradesmen found that 83% of respondents in the Attica region consider inflation and rising prices a significant problem, with 63% citing high food costs as the main concern. Energy expenses rank second for 23% of those surveyed, and 61% express pessimism about Greece's economic outlook. Financial strain is also affecting holiday plans, as 25% intend to shorten their vacations and 24% plan to skip a summer holiday altogether.

In Ireland, a First Table‑conducted study shows that 63% of adults have cut back on dining out to save money, with one‑quarter opting for cheaper restaurant alternatives and 20% ordering fewer courses. The research highlights a shift toward value‑seeking behaviour, especially among those aged 35‑54, and has prompted discount initiatives such as a 50% off offer for early‑hour meals.

Both surveys illustrate how rising living costs are prompting households across Europe to adjust consumption habits and seek greater price relief.
