Costa Daurada beaches issue red flag warnings

Six beaches along the Costa Daurada in Tarragona have been placed under red flag warnings, indicating a total prohibition on swimming due to safety risks.

The restrictions are concentrated in the municipalities of Cunit and Calafell, which account for five of the affected beaches. In Calafell, the red flags are active at L'Estany - Mas Mel, Segur, and Calafell beaches. In Cunit, the Llevant and Ponent beaches are affected. Additionally, the Tamarit beach in Tarragona remains under a red flag warning.

Red flags are issued as a preventive measure when there is a serious risk to swimmers, such as heavy waves exceeding two meters, dangerous currents, extreme sea conditions, contamination, or the presence of harmful marine animals like jellyfish.
