Costa dei Trabocchi National Park faces stakeholder debate
The establishment of the Costa dei Trabocchi e Teatina National Park is facing significant debate among local stakeholders and institutions. The Cia Chieti-Pescara has expressed strong concern regarding the potential impact on over 11,000 hectares of agricultural land, warning that new regulations could compromise the ability of local businesses to invest and develop.
In Vasto, the City Council approved observations to be sent to the Ministry of Environment. While the majority supports the creation of the Park and seeks to host its institutional headquarters in Vasto, they have requested that existing urban planning—including coastal construction and hydrocarbon extraction—be preserved. Opposition members have criticized this stance, arguing that national park rules must be strictly applied.
Additionally, the association APS I Trabocchi has submitted observations to the Ministry, the Abruzzo Region, and ISPRA. The group expressed regret over the lack of public consultation and emphasized the need to protect the Via Verde Costa dei Trabocchi, requesting it be recognized as a strategic infrastructure for sustainable tourism within the park's framework.
