Costa Gaia rest area underpass reported in severe degradation

A formal complaint has been filed regarding the severe degradation of the pedestrian underpass at the Costa Gaia rest area along the A29 motorway in Sicily. A resident of Calatafimi Segesta submitted the report to Anas, the Municipality of Alcamo, the Trapani ASP, and the State Police, providing photographic evidence of the site.

The report highlights several critical issues, including the indiscriminate dumping of plastic, glass, and other waste along the access ramp and stairs. The underpass is reportedly obstructed by wooden pallets and broken platforms, which pose a significant fire hazard due to the combination of timber and dry vegetation.

Furthermore, the situation presents a public health risk, as the accumulation of decomposing organic matter and debris may encourage the proliferation of rats and insects. Structural deterioration was also noted, specifically regarding crumbling concrete steps and heavily rusted handrails, rendering the passage unsafe for pedestrians.
