Costa Rica and Peru name new leaders in banking and economic advisory
Jorge Eduardo Sánchez, a former deputy of Costa Rica's Partido Unidad Social Cristiana, was appointed by the Council of Government as interim director of the Banco de Costa Rica for a one‑year term, succeeding Eduardo Rodríguez. Sánchez had previously served as president of the board of Banco Popular, resigned in July, and faced observations from the Superintendencia General de Entidades Financieras regarding the experience criteria for financial‑sector directors.
Luis Alberto Arias Minaya, an economist with extensive public‑sector experience, was designated as head of the advisory cabinet of Peru's Ministry of Economy and Finance. The appointment, formalised by ministerial resolution, follows his prior roles as director and vice‑president of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, head of the national customs and tax authority (Sunat), and executive president of the state‑owned Banco de la Nación.
