Latin American nations update travel and entry requirements

Several Latin American nations have updated entry and travel requirements for foreign visitors. Brazil now requires passports to be valid for the entire duration of a traveler's stay. Guatemala commonly enforces a six-month passport validity standard. In Costa Rica, requirements vary by nationality, and authorities may request proof of funds of approximately US$100 per month of stay.

Costa Rica has also expanded its list of destinations requiring yellow fever vaccination for travelers. While the disease is not present in Costa Rica, health officials mandate the vaccine to prevent travelers from introducing the virus via the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is present in the country. The implementation of these new vaccination requirements was postponed to October 1 to allow travelers time to become immune.

In the Guanacaste region of Costa Rica, a surge in tourism has coincided with rising crime rates. Between January and July 2026, Liberia reported a 49% increase in vehicle thefts compared to the previous year, while motorcycle thefts rose by 111%. This trend presents new security challenges for companies managing commercial fleets and rental vehicles.
