Costa Rica Coast Guard seizes two tonnes of cocaine near Bahía Ballena

The Costa Rican National Coast Guard intercepted a 38‑foot motorized boat carrying roughly two tonnes of cocaine off Bahía Ballena in the Osa Peninsula. The operation was enabled by real‑time intelligence shared with the Colombian Navy and aerial support from the United States, allowing Special Operations Group officers to board the vessel shortly after midnight. The three crew members – two Ecuadorians and one Colombian – were taken into custody and the boat, cargo and suspects were transferred to Golfito for further investigation by the national drug‑control police.

Authorities reported finding 84 sacks, each containing about 30 packages of the suspected drug, and said the exact weight would be confirmed by forensic analysis. The seizure demonstrates ongoing regional cooperation against narcotrafficking routes that pass through Central America’s Pacific coast.
