Costa Rica consolidates Southwest Neonatal Care Node
The Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS) is consolidating the Southwest Neonatal Node to improve specialized care for premature and critically ill infants in Costa Rica. This initiative aims to serve the Pacific Central, Chorotega, and Brunca regions.
By centralizing services at the Hospital Monseñor Sanabria, the project reduces the need to transfer patients to the Hospital México or the National Children's Hospital in the Greater Metropolitan Area. Mónica Taylor Hernández, Executive President of the CCSS, stated that the project involved coordinating more than nine hospitals and specialized training for medical staff to optimize response times for critical cases.
