Costa Rica Constitutional Court receives challenge to ambulance procurement
A constitutional challenge has been filed against the Costa Rican Fire Department regarding the procurement process for 40 new ambulances. The legal action, brought by communicator José Alexis Retana, does not contest the necessity of the vehicles but alleges irregularities that may compromise the transparency of the bidding process.
Retana argued that the government declared an emergency to facilitate the purchase for the Fire Department while the Costa Rican Red Cross continues to face funding shortages. He claimed that the Ministry of Finance has withheld necessary resources from the Red Cross, suggesting that funds should be prioritized for that institution instead of the Fire Department's acquisition.
