Costa Rica deports 23 foreign nationals amid drug agent arrests in U.S
Costa Rican authorities deported 23 foreign nationals via a charter flight from Juan Santamaría International Airport. The group included 16 Colombian citizens and seven Ecuadorians. According to the Directorate of Migration and Foreigners, 10 of the Colombians were identified as having “high criminal profiles,” with alleged involvement in drug trafficking, homicide, terrorism affiliation, and domestic violence.
The seven Ecuadorian nationals were deported for being in an irregular migratory status while attempting to travel north toward the United States. This operation was conducted with support from the United States government.
In a separate incident, federal authorities in the United States arrested two agents from the Dominican Republic’s National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD), Deny Manuel Sepúlveda de León and Oliver Guevara Rodríguez. The agents, who were part of the Sensitive Investigations Tactical Division, were apprehended at Miami International Airport while traveling from the Dominican Republic for technical training. They face charges of conspiring to distribute cocaine.
