Fernando Obaldía faces legislative investigation for harassment allegations

The Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica has officially initiated administrative protocols following sexual and workplace harassment allegations against Deputy Fernando Obaldía of the Pueblo Soberano party.

Legislative President Yara Jiménez confirmed that the Board of Directors has activated the process under the 2021 regulations against sexual harassment. The case is being handled with strict confidentiality to protect the parties involved. According to the established roadmap, an investigative commission consisting of three to five deputies must be formed within two business days of the initial filing.

The commission will have a maximum of two months, with a possible 15-day extension, to submit a report to the Plenary. This report will determine whether sanctions are applied to the deputy. The allegations, which have also been reported to the Attorney General's Office, include claims of predatory sexual harassment and workplace harassment made by staff members within Obaldía's office.
