Costa Rica expands cultural circuit to boost northern economy

The Costa Rican Ministry of Culture and Youth (MCJ) is extending its flagship RIDE Cultural initiative to the Huetar Norte region from October 23 to 25, 2026. The three-day program will feature music, theater, dance, and culinary arts in the communities of Santa Clara, Guatuso, and Upala.

The initiative aims to decentralize cultural access and stimulate local economies by providing platforms for artisans, small-scale food producers, and micro-enterprises. By bringing state-sponsored artistic programs to rural cantons, the government seeks to expand tourism and economic benefits beyond the Central Valley and coastal destinations.

Legal experts note that the project's success will depend on rigorous legal compliance and strategic management of intellectual property, requiring coordination between municipal authorities and private stakeholders.
