Educational institutions in Costa Rica are launching new academic initiatives to strengthen the country's high-tech sectors. LEAD University and the Promotora Costarricense de Innovación e Investigación (PCII) have formed an alliance called Nexus Talento STEM 2026. This program will offer 100% scholarships for specialized training in semiconductors and medical devices, with courses beginning in the first quarter of 2027 via a virtual modality.
The semiconductor specialty program will last 13 months and cover topics such as global industry landscapes, manufacturing processes, supply chain management, and international quality standards. The scholarship application period is scheduled from September 16 to October 13, 2026, targeting advanced students or graduates with basic knowledge in these fields.
Additionally, the Universidad Nacional (UNA) Alajuela Campus will introduce a new degree in Quality and Production Technologies Engineering starting in 2027. This program aims to train professionals in automation, metrology, mechatronics, and data science to improve industrial efficiency and productivity, specifically targeting sectors like advanced manufacturing and medical devices.
