Costa Rica faces heavy rain and flooding risks amid tropical activity

Costa Rica is facing a period of significant rainfall and atmospheric instability driven by Tropical Wave #50 and the Intertropical Convergence Zone. The National Meteorological Institute (IMN) has reported heavy downpours and thunderstorms, particularly in the central mountainous axis, with some areas recording accumulations between 15 and 75 mm. Warnings have been issued for moderate soil saturation in several regions, including the Nicoya Peninsula, Osa, and the Central Valley, increasing the risk of flooding and overflowing streams.

Separately, a disturbance in the Pacific Ocean has reached a 90% probability of becoming a tropical cyclone within the next 48 hours. While the National Hurricane Center is monitoring this low-pressure area south of Mexico and Guatemala, the IMN has stated that this specific system is not expected to directly affect Costa Rica. Instead, the country's rainy conditions are attributed to seasonal patterns and the repositioning of the Intertropical Convergence Zone over the isthmus, with the heaviest rain expected between Wednesday and Friday.
