Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras launch ForestFlow Mesoamérica
Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Honduras have entered a new preparatory phase for ForestFlow Mesoamérica, a regional program designed to strengthen forest protection and create economic opportunities for rural and indigenous communities. The initiative aims to link forest conservation with sustainable productive activities through forest incentives, climate financing, and digital tools.
Supported by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Government and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the program seeks to integrate previously separate mechanisms such as economic incentives, credits, insurance, and private investment. The goal is to ensure these resources reach producers and communities within forest and agroforestry territories to reduce deforestation and enhance climate change resilience.
The program was originally introduced in November 2025 during the COP30 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Belém, Brazil.
