Costa Rica implements new tools to boost banana sector investment
Costa Rica is implementing new territorial analysis tools to identify investment opportunities and strengthen production within the banana sector. The initiative is led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) through the Huetar Caribe Development Region and the Limón Agricultural Extension Agency.
The project involves a collaboration between MAG, PROCOMER’s DESCUBRE Program, and the Tropical Agronomic Research and Teaching Center (CATIE), alongside various public and private stakeholders. A participatory mapping workshop was held in the Huetar Caribe region to allow producers and industry actors to identify gaps, challenges, and opportunities.
A pilot geospatial tool was introduced during the process, featuring an interactive panel that integrates technical, productive, market, financial, logistical, and institutional data. This instrument is designed to visualize territorial information and identify priority zones to better evaluate investment potential.
