Costa Rica Institute of Technology partners with Tecnológico de Monterrey on microcredentials

The Costa Rica Institute of Technology (TEC) is collaborating with Mexico’s Tecnológico de Monterrey to develop a new microcredential model aimed at strengthening the professional skills of the Costa Rican workforce.

These microcredentials are short, flexible digital certifications designed to validate specific competencies rather than replacing traditional university degrees. The initiative seeks to provide agile learning pathways that can respond rapidly to technological changes and evolving labor market demands in sectors such as technology, healthcare, and corporate management.

TEC began receiving guidance from Tecnológico de Monterrey in November 2025 to adapt the Mexican institution’s experience with microcredentials to the Costa Rican higher education context. The project involves approximately 40 faculty and administrative members working on various proposals to ensure the workforce remains competitive amidst rapid technological disruption.
