Costa Rica Ministry of Finance seeks dismissal of 36 officials
The Costa Rican Ministry of Finance has initiated dismissal proceedings against 36 officials following the discovery of unauthorized software used to simulate activity during telework. The software was reportedly used to mimic mouse movements, creating the false appearance that employees were actively working during their shifts.
Vice Minister of Revenue Víctor Carvajal stated that the institution maintains a policy of “zero tolerance” regarding corruption and failure to fulfill public duties. The officials involved work across several departments, including revenue, expenditures, and administration.
In addition to the administrative dismissal process, the Ministry has implemented cybersecurity measures due to the risks posed by unauthorized software on institutional equipment. Telework privileges for the 36 identified officials have been temporarily revoked while the legal proceedings continue.
