Rebeca Grynspan, the former Vice President of Costa Rica, has maintained her lead in the race to succeed Antonio Guterres as United Nations Secretary-General. In the fourth informal straw poll conducted by the UN Security Council, Grynspan received 10 votes of encouragement, three votes of discouragement, and two no-opinion votes.

Following the withdrawal of former Chilean President Michelle Bachelet, seven candidates remain in contention: Grynspan, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett of Guyana, Rafael Grossi of Argentina, Macky Sall of Senegal, Olara Otunnu of Uganda, and two candidates from Ecuador, Ivonne A-Baki and María Fernanda Espinosa.

In the same round, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett secured eight votes of encouragement and six votes of discouragement. Rafael Grossi showed progress, receiving eight votes of encouragement and seven votes of discouragement. To secure a formal recommendation to the General Assembly, a candidate must obtain at least nine votes and avoid a veto from any of the five permanent Security Council members: the United States, China, Russia, France, and the United Kingdom.
