Ecuador Assembly archives political trial of ex‑Energy Minister Inés Manzano
On 31 July 2026 Ecuador’s National Assembly voted to archive the political trial against former Energy Minister Inés Manzano. The Commission of Fiscalization reported insufficient evidence and no causal link between Manzano’s duties and the disputed contract with Austral Technical Management, and the plenary approved the archive with 81 votes in favour and 58 against, meeting the simple‑majority requirement of 77.
In the same session a motion presented by legislator Liliana Durán to partially declassify documents on the suspension of the Amigo movement was rejected. The vote tallied 79 against, 56 for and 4 abstentions, also falling short of the 77‑vote threshold.
Separately, twelve members of the Acción Democrática Nacional (ADN) announced their resignation from the Assembly to run for mayoral, prefectural and council positions in the 2027 local elections, with their substitutes assuming legislative duties.
