Costa Rica PLN deputy proposes reduced eurobond project

Salvador Padilla, a deputy for the National Liberation Party (PLN), has proposed motions to modify the government's eurobond project. The PLN opposes the Executive's plan to issue $13.5 billion over nine years between 2026 and 2034.

Padilla’s counterproposal suggests reducing the total amount to $6 billion, to be issued in four installments of $1.5 billion starting in 2027 and concluding in 2030. The deputy stated that the current proposal involves amounts and terms that are “exaggerated” and expressed a desire to reach a consensus with the ruling party to establish a more manageable starting point for negotiations.
