Costa Rica President Laura Fernández Confronted in Parliament and Names New Education Viceminister

During a plenary session of the Costa Rican legislature, deputy Edgardo Araya of the Frente Amplio party sharply criticized President Laura Fernández over her remarks about former officials' pensions. The exchange escalated, with the president demanding respect, opposition members walking out, and the session being halted due to a loss of quorum. Calls were made for possible legal complaints against the deputy.

In a separate development, President Laura Fernández Delgado swore in María Fernanda Durán López as Vice Minister of Planning at the Ministry of Public Education. Durán brings more than 15 years of experience in public budgeting, strategic planning, and education sector management, and pledged to improve planning and resource allocation for schools and communities.
