Costa Rica reports unemployment figures and Nestlé marks 75 years in country
Costa Rica's unemployment figures for the May-July 2026 moving quarter show 156,868 unemployed persons, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC). This represents a decrease of 6,822 unemployed individuals compared to the April-June quarter, which had 163,690. The total labor force decreased slightly to 2,337,552 people, down from 2,346,606 in the previous period.
In corporate news, Nestlé is celebrating its 160th anniversary globally and over 75 years of operations in Costa Rica. The company, which began its Central American expansion in 1938, currently employs more than 4,300 people across the region. In Costa Rica, Nestlé has implemented various youth training and employability programs since 2015, reaching over 35,000 young people through initiatives such as culinary, barista, veterinary, and pediatric training.
