Costa Rica sees economic shifts and infrastructure disruptions

Costa Rica is seeing diverse developments across its economic and infrastructure sectors. In Guanacaste, the Instituto de Desarrollo Rural (Inder) has allocated ¢179 million colones to support 19 families in Playas del Coco, funding new marine outboard motors to professionalize tourist fishing operations.

In Cartago, the agricultural sector is adopting precision technology. Supported by the Ministerio de Agricultura y Ganadería, an investment of over ₡295 million is providing farmers with high-tech tools like drones and IoT sensors to improve efficiency and climate resilience.

Logistics capabilities are expanding in the Northern Zone, where DHL Express has opened a new service point in Ciudad Quesada to better connect local producers and SMEs to global markets.

However, the country faces logistical challenges following a severe accident on Ruta 1 in the Cambronero sector. A heavy cargo truck collision caused significant structural damage to a bridge, resulting in a total closure of this critical shipping and transit route for an estimated two months.
