Costa Rica seizes 1.5 tonnes of chicken over safety violations

Sanitary authorities in Costa Rica, led by the Servicio Nacional de Salud Animal (Senasa), confiscated more than 1.5 tonnes of chicken in the Heredia province after finding serious breaches of food‑safety regulations. Inspectors reported that the poultry had been stored and handled without maintaining the required cold chain, lacked proper documentation and traceability, and failed essential hygiene standards.

The seized meat was ordered destroyed to prevent it from reaching consumers. Officials used the incident to urge producers and retailers to comply with sanitary norms, stressing the risk of bacterial contamination and spoilage for the public’s health.
