Costa Rica tourism rises as US and Canada lead arrivals
Costa Rica experienced a 4.8% increase in international tourist arrivals during the first nine months of 2026, welcoming a total of 2,310,320 visitors compared to the same period in 2025. Data from the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) indicates that North American markets remain the primary drivers of this growth, accounting for approximately 66% of all arrivals.
The United States continues to be the largest source market, contributing 1,288,001 tourists, which represents more than half of the total arrivals. Canada ranked as the second largest market with 239,065 tourists, marking a significant 24.6% increase compared to the previous year.
In response to travel interest, the XII edition of the Expoviajes travel and tourism fair is being held at the Costa Rica Convention Center. The event aims to assist residents in planning year-end vacations and future trips for 2027, offering access to airlines, hotels, cruises, and travel specialists.
