Costa Rica: UNA study reveals fear of expressing political opinions

A study conducted by the Universidad Nacional (UNA) in Costa Rica reveals significant levels of hesitation regarding political expression. According to data presented by Dr. Laura Solís, 53% of respondents stated that expressing public opinions on national politics or country problems could lead to negative consequences.

The survey also highlighted a decline in social cohesion and trust. Exactly 50% of the population admitted that people do not always express their true thoughts during national political debates due to distrust. Furthermore, 49.8% of those surveyed reported that they feel they can never or almost never trust other people, leading many to restrict political discussions to their most intimate circles.
