Costa Rica weather alert: Consecutive tropical waves to bring heavy rain

Costa Rica is facing a period of atmospheric instability due to the passage of consecutive tropical waves. Tropical wave No. 42 is expected to arrive on Friday afternoon, potentially extending rainfall into the night, particularly along the Caribbean coast and localized areas of the Pacific coast.

Following this, tropical wave No. 43 is forecasted to arrive on Saturday afternoon. Combined with an active Intertropical Convergence Zone and moderate trade winds, these systems are expected to maintain unstable conditions and rainfall through the weekend and into early next week. Significant rainfall accumulations have already been noted in the South Pacific, including Río Claro de Golfito and Ciudad Neily, as well as parts of the Central Valley.

Authorities have issued warnings for several risks, including potential flooding in vulnerable areas due to saturated drainage systems. There is also a risk of electrical storms and wind gusts reaching up to 80 km/h, which could damage infrastructure, vegetation, and power lines. Additionally, increased turbulence and rough seas are expected, affecting air and maritime navigation, particularly in the North Pacific and the Gulf of Nicoya.
