Costa Rican agricultural sector seeks lower water and electricity tariffs
Agricultural representatives in Costa Rica have submitted a Priority Action Plan for the Agri-food Sector to the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG). The plan includes 61 proposals aimed at reducing economic costs and boosting productivity.
Key requests include lowering water and electricity tariffs, reducing employer contributions, and decreasing interest rates on agri-food credits. The proposal also addresses monetary policy regarding exchange rate appreciation, infrastructure, digital transformation, and climate change adaptation. Oscar Arias Moreira, president of the National Chamber of Agriculture and Agroindustry (CNAA), emphasized the need for a long-term state policy to ensure food security and competitiveness through 2050.
