Costa Rican banana sector adopts drone and precision agriculture training

PROCOMER and CORBANA, through the Compañía Nacional de Banano S.A. (CIBSA), have launched a technical training project to modernize Costa Rica's banana sector. The initiative focuses on developing specialized talent in precision agricultural technologies, including the operation of agricultural drones, geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and data software.

The program aims to increase global competitiveness by fostering a more efficient and sustainable agricultural model. It involves an investment of over 26 million colones, with PROCOMER covering 70% of the costs. The training is designed for 155 individuals, comprising 15 CIBSA employees and 140 job seekers.

As part of the academic process, 25 participants are currently undergoing theoretical and practical courses to obtain agricultural RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems) licenses. This includes collaboration with the University of Costa Rica, the Costa Rica Institute of Technology, and the National University to prepare for official evaluations by the General Directorate of Civil Aviation.
