Costa Rican business chambers support 4x3 work schedule bill
Three major business organizations in Costa Rica—the Costa Rican-North American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), the Association of Free Zone Companies of Costa Rica (AZOFRAS), and the Chamber of Industries of Costa Rica (CICR)—have submitted legal arguments to the Constitutional Chamber (Sala IV) in support of the 4x3 exceptional work schedule bill (Expediente 24.290).
The bill, which was approved in its first debate by the Legislative Assembly on October 8, is currently frozen while the Constitutional Chamber reviews questions regarding its legality. The business groups provided technical and legal arguments to address constitutional challenges, asserting that the reform is essential for legal certainty, competitiveness, and job creation.
The proposed legislation aims to establish specific conditions for companies with continuous production processes, while maintaining protections for workers. The legal intervention specifically seeks to clarify procedural questions and the introduction of new articles related to the reform.
