Costa Rican Comptroller orders investigation into Puntarenas stadium funds
The Comptroller General of the Republic has ordered an investigation into the Municipality of Puntarenas regarding 200 million colones transferred by the Costa Rican Institute of Sport and Recreation (ICODER) for structural reinforcement works at the Lito Pérez stadium.
The investigation aims to determine administrative or civil responsibilities for the failed projects, which never commenced. The probe will examine municipal actions related to direct contracting for soil studies and construction plans, the reception of delivered products, and the potential responsibility for the custody of unused purchased piles.
While the Municipality has returned the 200 million colones to ICODER, previous legal actions against the consortium responsible for the studies failed to secure compensation, with a second lawsuit declared expired in May 2026.
