Costa Rican Football Federation defends financial stability

The Costa Rican Football Federation (FCRF) held its Ordinary Assembly to review its financial status following the country's failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. Despite concerns raised by former Executive Committee member Jorge Hidalgo, assembly members and First Division club presidents reported satisfaction with the financial reports presented.

Hidalgo had previously resigned, alleging significant cash flow issues and claiming that the Executive Committee had not received complete audited financial statements. He specifically noted that only 8 of 29 pages of an audited document had been distributed, omitting critical explanatory notes.

However, during the assembly, Geovanni Paniagua, president of Inter San Carlos, stated that the actual financial situation differed from Hidalgo's claims and that members felt reassured. This stance was contrasted by the actions of Linafa (Amateur Football League) president Juan Carlos Román, who voted in favor of the financial statements, despite the criticisms leveled by Hidalgo, who had represented Linafa on the committee.
