Costa Rican opposition parties weigh alliances for 2028 elections

Costa Rican opposition parties, including the National Liberation Party (PLN) and the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC), have authorized their executive committees to explore alliances and coalitions for the 2028 municipal elections.

Leadership from both parties indicated that these agreements would be evaluated on a canton-by-canton basis to ensure local viability. The move is seen as a strategic effort to counter the Partido Pueblo Soberano (PPSO), which has expressed ambitions to win 70 mayoralties.
