Costa Rican schools achieve major environmental education milestones
Educational institutions in Costa Rica are achieving significant milestones in environmental sustainability. In the Guanacaste province, Coopeguanacaste, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Education and the Guardians of Nature movement, donated 155 Blue Flag Ecological recognitions to schools and colleges across four regional circuits.
This initiative aims to strengthen environmental education, conservation, and sustainability within local educational communities. Coopeguanacaste has also supported climate action through educational programs, including lectures on Blue Flag parameters that reached approximately 5,000 participants.
Additionally, La Joya School in Desamparados has become the first institution globally to earn the Earth Charter School Sustainability Seal twice. Since its first certification in 2022, the school has expanded its ecological initiatives, including a school farm, botanical garden, and composting station, to integrate environmental stewardship into its core curriculum.
