Costa Rican student wins gold at Ibero-American Biology Olympiad
Kristen Angélica Solís López, a tenth-grade student from Costa Rica, won the absolute gold medal and first place overall at the XIX Ibero-American Biology Olympiad (OIAB). The competition took place from August 30 to September 5 at the Instituto Butantan in São Paulo, Brazil.
Solís, a student at the Colegio Científico Bilingüe Reina de los Ángeles, was the sole representative for Costa Rica among 57 participants from 16 different countries. Her achievement followed a series of successes, including gold medals at the Costa Rican Biology Science Olympiad (OLICOCIBI) and the Central American and Caribbean Biology Olympiad in the Dominican Republic.
Her preparation for the international event involved intensive study of specialized books, weekly exams, and laboratory practice in fields such as ecology and zoology, supported by academics from the Universidad Nacional.
