Costa Rica's PLN to denounce Deputy Ariel Mora for political violence

The National Liberation Party (PLN) has announced it will file a formal complaint against Ariel Mora, a deputy from the Pueblo Soberano party, for alleged political violence against Deputy Norjelens Lobo.

The incident occurred during an extraordinary legislative session held at the Casa de la Cultura in Puntarenas. Video footage captured Mora whistling at Deputy Lobo while she was delivering a speech. According to reports, Mora appeared to attempt to hide his actions with his hand when he realized he was being recorded.

Álvaro Ramírez, the PLN faction leader, described the incident as “lamentable” and characterized it as part of a broader pattern of confrontation against opposition deputies. The PLN has specifically categorized the act of whistling at a female legislator during her official use of the floor as “political violence against women.”
