Costa Serena cruise ship to serve as floating athletes village in Nagoya

For the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan, organizers are utilizing the Italian cruise ship Costa Serena as a floating athletes village. Docked at Kinjo Pier, the vessel serves as a temporary residential and operational hub to accommodate up to 5,000 athletes and officials from dozens of nations.

This maritime solution was developed through a partnership between Costa Cruises, JTB Nagoya, and the AINAGOC organizing committee. The initiative aims to provide sustainable and flexible infrastructure, avoiding the need for permanent residential construction. The ship's internal services have been redesigned to support high-performance athletes, including extended dining hours with specialized nutritional menus, enhanced gym facilities, and a 24-hour medical center connected to the event's healthcare network.

In addition to the cruise ship, the games will utilize modular container accommodations and partner hotels to manage the influx of participants representing approximately 45 countries and regions across 43 different sports.
