Costco Distribution Center in Florida Goes Off-Grid with Trinity Energy

Costco Wholesale’s distribution center in Port St. Lucie, Florida, has been equipped with an integrated on‑site energy system that allows the facility to operate independently of the utility grid. The system, built by Trinity Energy, combines solar power, battery storage and electric‑vehicle charging to provide round‑the‑clock reliability for refrigeration, lighting, data‑center equipment and other critical loads.

The project follows similar installations at Costco’s Mira Loma and Ontario distribution centers in California and was completed faster than a traditional grid backup, enabling Costco to avoid interconnection delays and to capture Inflation Reduction Act tax credits. Trinity Energy cites the model as a template for other large operators such as data centers, semiconductor plants and logistics facilities facing rising energy costs and grid strain.
