Costco Faces Washington Lawsuits Over Employment Practices and Misleading Emails

Michael Aaland has filed a civil lawsuit against Costco Wholesale Corporation in King County Superior Court, alleging violations of Washington employment laws such as wrongful termination or discrimination. The case is proceeding through the court system, with discovery and potential trial or settlement ahead.

Separately, a class‑action lawsuit accusing Costco of violating Washington’s Commercial Electronic Mail Act and Consumer Protection Act with deceptive promotional email subject lines has led the company to agree to a $14 million settlement. The court must still approve the settlement, which would allocate roughly $9.3 million to eligible Washington consumers, who could receive up to $500 per email receipt, subject to claim filings and attorney fees.

Both legal matters involve Costco’s operations in Washington state and are pending court decisions that could affect the retailer’s policies and financial obligations.
