Costco resubmits plans for new Asheville-area warehouse club
Costco has resubmitted a revised conditional rezoning application to build a new warehouse club in the Enka Commerce Park area of Asheville, North Carolina. The proposed facility would span approximately 166,800 square feet on a 39.7-acre property and include a 32-pump gas station, a tire center, and over 800 parking spaces.
The company had previously withdrawn its original application in February due to the high costs associated with requested road and infrastructure improvements. Following discussions with city officials, the Asheville Planning and Zoning Commission approved the resubmitted application on October 7. The Asheville City Council was scheduled to vote on the proposal on October 13.
A recent traffic study estimates the location will see roughly 12,000 daily trips. Under the current agreement, the developer is responsible for funding and completing necessary road improvements required by the North Carolina Department of Transportation before the store can open.
