Costco negotiates real estate deal for parking expansion
Costco is pursuing real estate expansion in Eugene, Oregon, through negotiations to purchase the 10-acre headquarters of Oregon Community Credit Union (OCCU). The retailer intends to use the site, valued at approximately $11.7 million, to alleviate parking congestion at its adjacent Chad Drive location. OCCU reported that its 53,000-square-foot office building is currently 60 percent empty due to remote work trends.
Financially, Costco continues to show robust operational metrics, including a membership renewal rate of 89.7% and a significant increase in membership-based revenue. While analysts maintain a ‘Hold’ rating due to high valuation multiples, the company’s history of issuing special dividends—most recently a $15 per share payout in late 2023—has led to speculation regarding a potential new one-time distribution later this year.
