Jean-Pierre Dorléac, the French‑born Hollywood costume designer, died of natural causes on July 23, 2024, at his home in the Hollywood Hills, California. He was 83.

Born on April 12, 1943, in Toulon, France, Dorléac studied at the École des Beaux‑Arts before moving to the United States, where he began a career that spanned film and television. He earned an Oscar nomination for the 1980 romance "Somewhere in Time" and won two Emmy Awards – in 1979 for the sci‑fi series "Battlestar Galactica" and in 2001 for the period comedy "The Lot". He received eleven Emmy nominations overall.

His film credits included "The Blue Lagoon" (1980), "Heart and Souls" (1993) and "In Enemy Hands" (2004). Dorléac also authored the 2005 novel "Abracabra Alakazama" and the 2015 memoir "The Naked Truth: An Irreverent Chronicle of Delirious Escapades". He is survived by his spouse, Gilberto Mello, and, per his wishes, no public memorial service will be held.
